We are looking for a Mainframe Tester to manage and oversee the testing processes for our banking client. The ideal candidate will be responsible for testing mainframe applications and systems to ensure they meet client requirements and are functioning correctly.
In this role, you will
- Perform testing of mainframe applications.
- Develop and maintain test cases and test data, using automated testing tools where appropriate.
- Involved in testing both web UI and batch mainframe backend testing.
- Develop and Maintain both Batch and Online Applications using Mainframe Technologies COBOL, JCL, DB2,
- Implement different types of testing, like functional, integration, regression, and performance testing on mainframe applications.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and project managers, to ensure alignment on testing objectives.
- Should be able to perform various task related to Mainframe Testing like JCL - Abended & errors jobs handling, Program execution with input file and output file, File edit, File overwrite, View File manager, GDG handling, Restart process, JCL Scanning ability after run the job, JCL Flat file handling, VSAM file handling & overwrite, How to check SDSF after run the job, CA-7 scheduler, How to check dependencies in CA-7, In sync and in Find Text, HEXA Value, HEXA Dismal values read ability.
Required skills
- Must have 5+ years of experience in mainframe testing.
- Strong experience in mainframe environments (z/OS, JCL, REXX, etc.).
- Must have worked on COBOL, JCL, DB2 and Batch Job execution.
- Host Screen Navigation (Must have).
- TSYS (Must have)
- Testing Concepts (STLC Life Cycle) (Must have)
- Agile Concepts (Scrum/Scaled Agile) (Must have)
- Proficient in bug tracking and test management tool-sets (JIRA, SVN, GIT, Jenkins, HP-ALM)
- Knowledge of automation testing tools and methodologies.
Preferred skills
- Strong Banking Domain Knowledge.
- Mainframe Modernization Tools (Nice to have).
- CICS (Nice to have).

Total compensation:
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 70,000 – 90,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
Working arrangements
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto location.
