About the role
As a GCP Data Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and data delivery solutions that power business-critical applications. You will be a valued member of the data engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, business stakeholders, and downstream data consumers to deliver reliable and high-quality data solutions.
In this role, you will:
Design and develop scalable data pipelines and data flows to support multiple applications and business use cases
Build and maintain Python-based frameworks and packages for data ingestion, transformation, and historical data tracking
Develop and optimize BigQuery functions and queries to support analytics and custom data requirements
Create and manage data delivery processes, ensuring accuracy, formatting, and compliance with client specifications
Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to design robust data solutions and support downstream integrations

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2–3 days per week in a Cognizant or client office in Toronto, ON. What you need to have to be considered
8+ years of experience in data engineering or related fields
Strong programming experience in Python for data processing, automation, and packaging
Expertise working with Google BigQuery and writing complex, optimized SQL queries
Hands-on experience building and orchestrating workflows using Apache Airflow (DAGs)
Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines, including ingestion, transformation, and delivery
Ability to work with large datasets and develop solutions for real-time and batch data processing
Experience implementing data quality checks, testing frameworks, and coding standards
Strong collaboration skills to work with architects, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
These will help you stand out
Experience with alerting and monitoring tools (e.g., PagerDuty or similar systems)
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and best practices for data modeling
Experience supporting reporting and analytics use cases, including aggregated reporting
Familiarity with CI/CD practices and automated testing in data engineering workflows
Exposure to client-facing delivery environments and handling multiple data requirements

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $100,000 - $120,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
